State of Louisiana, Dept. of Natural Resources, Atchafalaya Basin Program

Multiple contracts to write cultural interpretation materials of Atchafalaya Basin.  Materials include fieldwork, photographic documentation, interpretive text, and educational materials on:


  • Birding in the Atchafalaya Basin
  • Wildflower walks and appreciation
  • Bicycling along the Basin
  • Cypress swamps and wooden boats 
  • Alligator and crawfish


Other projects include a thirteen-parish cultural inventory of folklife resources in Atchafalaya Heritage Area, for design and theme development of folklife exhibits at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center, as well as the creation of camera-ready publicity materials.




State of Louisiana, Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism

Multiple contracts to perform ethnographic fieldwork, write interpretive plans, and consult on heritage tourism materials. Projects include:


  • Fieldwork in Tensas, Madison, and East Carroll Parishes for signage related to Civil War
  • Fieldwork and cultural survey of St. Charles and St. James Parishes, "German Heritage Corridor"
  • Fieldwork and cultural survey of Bayou Teche Corridor
  • Depression-era mural identification and interpretation throughout state for website development
  • Cultural resource identification in Pointe Coupee, East Feliciana, and West Feliciana Parishes
  • Itinerary development for Marketing Department




Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage.  The Univ. of So .Mississippi

Fieldwork in Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes to collect oral narratives.  Products include cultural inventory, field report, and article for "Pine Hills Culture Program."




"Louisiana Voices," Division of the Arts, State of Louisiana

Jocelyn, NEH Project Director, "Folklife Studies for Louisiana Schools."  $25,000 Grant to present Louisiana folklife to a group of 12 high school and middle school educators in a series of four, two-day mini-institutes.  Curriculum writer, including student essays and on-line educational units.  Lessons include curriculum objectives, background information, activities, worksheets, and resources.




Prime Time Family Reading, Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities

Jocelyn, Discussion Leader for storytelling literacy programs at local libraries throughout South Louisiana; teamed with storyteller to read, perform and discuss children's literature with parents and children.  Writer of report detailing strategies and guidelines for storytelling discussion leaders.
